The Regs Speak
Many of us have been about and playing Alien Arena for a long time, we've spent years getting better and learning new tricks.

Now, we can't share all that experience in the space of a single web page, the only real teacher for you will be to play, but we can give you a few pointers, share some of the most important concepts and ideas so that you've a little prod in the right direction.

Many of these might sound simple, and most of them are, but they are some of the most useful things you could ever know about playing, and winning, in the Alien Arena.

-Map knowledge..... Know where powerups, weapons, health are, and have a plan to get to them. (by [SiN]NealCool)

-Even something like ping can change your plans of what weapons you want to go for. (by [SiN]NealCool)

-Know your opponents..are they Beginners, or seasoned players with certain 'Strategies'? (by [SiN]NealCool)

-Learn the maps inside & out. (by [SiN]NealCool)

-Learn the movement, like strafe jumping, dodging, and how to aim during movement. (by [SiN]Emp)

-Learn the timing of the items (eg how long they take to respawn) (by [SiN]Emp)

-The best practice is to play against the regs, even if it gets frustrating to get pwned the first times. (by [SiN]Emp)

-Ask our regs to practice with you (we are a friendly bunch). (by [SiN]Emp)

-Adjust your settings to get the best performance/comfortable controls for you. (by [SiN]Emp)

-Learn how the weapons work, and in which situation they have the best effect (short/long range, against a bigger crowd, and so on). (by [SiN]Emp)

-Stay away from the center of hallways. Always stay stuck to the sides. It makes you less of a target. Also side strafe back and forth while an opponent is shooting at you. That's especially important in instagib (rail gun only) games. (by Outcast)

-The weapon you're using really is important to the way you aim. For example, with the rocket launcher, aim for the feet. (by MaxToTheMax)

-If you're coming around a corner, jump just before you do, so that you'll be in midair as you emerge. It makes you harder to hit. And don't hug the inside of a corner. Go right for the outside edge of the corridor, instead of stopping in the middle. (by MaxToTheMax)

-Don't ask people for cheats and hacks. We don't do that here. (by MaxToTheMax)

-Get a good mouse and pad. Pick a sensitivity you like and stick with it! High or low it doesnt matter its preference. (By Vicious)

-Know which team you are on in team games - don't shoot your team-mates! (by Outcast)

-Play more, practice, never give up - it takes time to learn to win. (by [T3]Sinn)

-Never stand still as you make an easy target. (by [T3]Sinn)

-Low ping servers will play better for you, but high ping will force you to play better. Play both high and low ping, learn to adjust and win at both, it will help you no end. (by [T3]Sinn)

-Being sporting and having fun counts for more than a win ever will.
(by [T3]Sinn)
